The Literacy Programme was started in 1997 to enable children,
young girls and women who had no opportunity to pursue even
a basic education, to attend classes. Reading, writing and
arithmetic are taught by a teacher who holds classes
at her own house which is in the same locality as the students.

A teachers’ meeting is held every month.
Problems encountered and suggestions for the improvement of
the programme are discussed. A representative of the TOS visits
the schools regularly in order to monitor their progress.
Unfortunately due to a shortage of funds this programme had
to be downsized. However, recent developments have given
new hope to this programme as the TS/TOS in Australia and
New Zealand have offered to sponsor new schools. Details will
be posted on this website as soon as they are finalized.
The Literacy Centre schools jointly organized a concert at
the Jamshed Memorial Hall this year. It was a big occasion
for the children, their parents and the teachers as none of
them had ever participated in such an event before. Needless
to say the concert was a great success and all the children
performed their parts with great enthusiasm.
The 7 schools enrolled in the programme
